I went to the Irish Festival in Dublin Ohio last light with a couple of friends from work. Planning to have a few drinks (afterall it is the Irish Fest) we took a cab to the event and hailed one to take us home after.

I don’t really know the area much, so on the way home I used Google Maps on my iPhone to help the cabby get us on the highway. The GPS feature on the iPhone is very nice in conjuction with the Google Maps application. We were able to watch our position in real time on the map while we traveled.

It enabled me to give directions as if I actually knew where we were. But, i suppose thanks to this great feature, I did know.

Today, I played with the YouTube application for a bit. This is definetly a nicely integrated application. The video downloads were fast on my WiFi and on the AT&T network. There are five tappers at the bottom of the screen that made it easy to browse for cool vids.

Featured

If you are just looking for something random to view, the featured section is a quick tap from all sorts of odd people and other videes. I’m not sure how a YouTube video get’s its featured status, but some of the ones I tapped on were kinda crappy and stupid.

Most Viewed

I know you are going to find this hard to believe, but this tapper displays the mosted viewed videos. These were among the better videos I viewed during my YouTube playtime.

Bookmarks

This is a really cool feature. I bookmarked a few videos I thought were worthwhile, and presto; there they were in my bookmarked tapper. It made it very convenient to share Christian the Lion with my sister at a later time.

Search

Tyoe in search words and find sometyhing that suits your fancy; Blah blah blah. It’s a search feature.

More

The more section has “Most Recent” (cool), “Top Rated” (even more cool) and “History” (kinda cool). If you are not sure what you want to watch but have the need for some entertainment, you should check out what everyone else likes.

Well, that’s about it. Overall, it was a great experience. In some instances (WiFi and AT&T) the vids didn’t play right away, but a tap on done then the vid again resolved it.

The only thing I can hope for is that I did not inadvertantly watch any copyrighted Viacom videos.

Most of the domains I have are on a shared hosting package with GoDaddy. If you are using GoDaddy, you know that the outgoing SMTP must be set to smtpout.secureserver.net. So, I tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Add Account… then selected Other. Additional options were Exchange, mobileme, Gmail, Yahoo and AOL.

I provided the basic information (name, email, etc.) Then it prompted for the incoming outgoing servers. This is when I wished the iPhone had copy paste feature (maybe it does but I have not found it yet) to enter the same domain over and over. It was a bit cumbersome on the narrow screen. I would have liked it if I could turn the phone to have the wide keyboard that is available while browsing the web. Oh well.

If you are setting up POP, be sure to select it at the top. Otherwise, you will have to wait for it to time out while it checks your IMAP settings.

So, I wait. The verifying POP account information dialog took a long time to complete. Unfortuenately, it failed but did not leave me with any information as to why. So, I wait again. And finally, after about three minutes it asks if I want to try without using SSL. And I wait again only to find out that I mis-types smtpout. Every other email client I have dealt with times out pretty darn fast when you make an error like that. Wow.

I had trouble getting the cursor to go to the ‘out’ so after a bit of frustration, I just deleted the enitre line and retyped it on the tiny keyboard. At this point, I am quite agrivated with the process. Only five more accounts to setup.

Oh, and just so you know, I tried to sync my account setting with iTunes before all of this crap. They accounts would not work. I kept getting invalid password errors. After typing in the passwords I don’t know how many times, I gave up. But, there’s more! My Exchange account would no longer sync the inbox (not that only being able to sync the inbox is at all useful for a user such as myself). So, I deleted the exchange account, re-entered all of that data and still no good. I ended up wiping the device and started over.

So, I wait again while it verifies the POP account information. I am more than 20 minutes into this process. What the hell could it need to verify that takes a million zillion years? After waiting another two minutes, it asks me about SSL again then goes back to verifying. Seriously, and not even an exageration: I could have setup 20 POP accounts in Outlook during the time it took to setup ONE on the iPhone. I could have typed in all the same info for, oh, let’s say 7 pop accounts on my blackberry (which, BTW, supports copy and paste).

Finally, my email works. I will do the others this weekend when I have time to waste.

Okay, so it supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, delivering push email, calendar, and contacts. But, after some frustration trying to get my other folders to sync, it finally became apparent that is does not support folder management. I have to manually fetch email on the other folders.

Sadly, Exchange support was a big selling point for me. I can’t imagine why they left this feaure out. Additionally, it does not support appointment assignments or tasks. To me, this really makes it nothing more than any other device that would utilize OWA.

I’m glad it pushes to my inbox, but the emails I have filing to the other folders are much more important to me. Until Apple resolves this (and I say resolve becuase I see this as a real problem for Apple) I will continue to rely on my BlackBerry to alert me of new emails.

A few years ago, he (as his company) filed a lawsuit against William “Michael” Love d.b.a MoonGear.com. There were multiple claims against MoonGear.com including tortious interference with a contract, unjust enrichment and conspiracy.

Love defended himself against PSN’s attorney David Hanson (a Lawyer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) in front of Chief Judge Rudolph T Randa in the Wisconsin Eastern District Federal Court. Michael prevailed by the decision of a jury of six.

A point and fact as it was discovered during the course of the trial is Nick’s statement to Michael Love via telephone, “I will own your company.” Although Nick may have felt some disappointment at trial’s end, Love’s company (MoonGear.com) is still owned by Love.
